Health Insurance covers the costs of psychological services for children under 18 years old, provided there is a referral from either a diagnostic team or a family doctor. The reference covers up to ten sessions and is valid for six months from the first treatment session.
The assigned psychologist must operate in accordance with the contract between the Health Insurance (isl. Sjúkratryggingar) and the Psychiatric Association of Iceland.
To request a referral, you can schedule an appointment with a general or your family doctor. Children under the age of 18 are exempt from the consultation fee during daytime hours at health centers.
